Why Documentation is so important?

As therapy providers, it is our responsibility to know the Code of Ethics for our profession and how it impacts our everyday work. Documentation is one area of clinical work that is heavily impacted by the Code of Ethics for therapy services. This session will inform providers of how the Code of Ethics directly impacts documentation. Special attention will be given tips and strategies for defensible documentation.

Course Objectives

By the end of this six week course, participants will do the following:

  • Identify the principles within their respective discipline's Code of Ethics related to documentation.

  • Discuss three components of defensible documentation including skilled service, medical necessity, and functional impact.

  • Apply components of defensible documentation during critique of documentation samples.

Kelli Marshall

Speech-language pathologist and the co-owner of Blue Sparrow and Today’s Therapy Solutions

Kelli Marshall is speech-language pathologist and the co-owner of Blue Sparrow and Today’s Therapy Solutions, an Oklahoma based pediatric therapy company. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Kelli obtained her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders in 2001 and she completed her master’s degree in speech-language pathology in 2003. After obtaining her degrees, Kelli worked in several different settings including hospitals, schools, outpatient clinics and university settings. She spends her days providing in-home therapy to children with developmental disabilities, conducting trainings and consultations for schools, parents and health care professionals, and managing her businesses. Kelli’s areas of intervention expertise include developing functional communication systems, augmentative-alternative communication devices, social skill development and home programming. Kelli enjoys creating processes to help businesses function more efficiently and assisting therapists in more effective documentation.
